A New Heart and a New Spirit

What are the heart and spirit as the Bible defines them? The heart is the mind, the control center of my entire being. The spirit is the will, the thing that causes me to do that which the mind dictates, to fulfill the desires of the flesh and of the mind that has set us in opposition to God.
Man does not need to be improved. He does not need to be reformed. He does not need to be made better.
Man needs to be made new. The whole of his being must be remade. The Bible calls this new birth, regeneration, a new creation.
