John writes his Gospel to defend his proposition that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God" (John 20:31). Here, in the first 18 verses of his Gospel, he connects the dots between the eternal Word - the Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds - and Jesus of Nazareth, conceived in the womb of the virgin.
