Throughout his letter the author of Hebrews has been contrasting in detail the ineffectual Old Testament sacrificial system with the superiority of Christ. In Hebrews 13:10 presents Christ as the altar from which those who believe on him "eat" and are nourished in the same way that the priests under the old covenant ate from the meats offered on the first altar which has been abolished by the altar which is Christ.
